A cruise on RRV James Cook was undertaken to the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, 13 July - 18 August 2007, as part of the NERC-funded consortium project ECOMAR. 31 scientsist participated on the cruise, led by Professor Monty Priede, Director of Oceanlab, University of Aberdeen. ECOMAR (“Ecosystem of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge at the Sub-Polar Front and Charlie-Gibbs Fracture Zone”) is an element of MAR-ECO. The project is focused on patterns and processes in the vicinity of the Charlie-Gibbs Fracture Zone. The aim of the cruise was to establish a detailed study of the environment in this transition zone. The RRV James Cook cruise 011 is the first in a series of three ECOMAR cruises that will take place over three successive summers (2007, 2008 and 2009).
