Our cruise is now coming to an end. This morning we saw land on the Azores (uppermost figure) and at one o'clock ship time (11 o'clock local time) we entered the harbour in Horta. Several participants spent the afternoon sightseeing in the beautiful town of Horta (mid figure).
We are very pleased with what we have achieved during the cruise. But we all realise that this is not the end, and that the success of the whole project is dependent on what comes after the cruise. What will follow now is an analysis of the data which we have collected. So we have a very stimulating time ahead of us.
There are four weeks since we left harbour in Bergen. After having been away from our friends and families for such a long period, we now look forward to going home. We wish the participants on leg 2, who will carry on with the work started on Leg 1, all the best during their part of the survey.
To the right is a picture of the scientific personnel on leg 1.
